We have conducted some studies on the commercially available types of personal armor. In general, they're based on lightweight, but extremely durable materials - like polymers (called 'Aqua Plastics' for some reason) and quasi-organic fibres to withstand armor-piercing ammunition. They're sometimes reinforced with 'magno-alloys', which are electricity and heat superconductors; this helps to dissipate energies unleashed by laser weapons which otherwise have little trouble digging through armor. With this technical knowledge, we might start to dream about developing (i.e. jury-rigging) our own kinds of armor - and weapons to combat it.
