The most stalwart of all the warriors of the Old Earth were the Knights of Cydonia. The legend has it that when the Earth was already lost to the Stellar Empire, they made an impossible voyage to Mars in a last ditch, desperate attempt to snatch a victory from the jaws of defeat. It is unknown what has become of them.
