These giant amphibians are dangerous predators. They stun their prey with a thrust of a tongue, launched at supersonic speed, then finish it off with their toothy maws. They're not too fast or bright, but absurdly tough. Their tongues create danger area of 12 tiles. It's better to keep away, or even engage the monster in melee, than to risk being hit by it. Unless you're wearing a really strong armor with Daze resistance.
